The Waynesboro Project

Creating affordable housing while mentoring young adults in Waynesboro City, Augusta and Nelson Counties, Virginia

The Waynesboro Project - Computer Training and Help

The Waynesboro Project will be focusing on developing affordable housing in the central Virginia and Shenandoah Valley areas as our main project. Our primary purpose for creating the Waynesboro Project is to teach entrepreneurship to young adults who don't have the opportunity or inclination to go on to college after graduating from high school, or who may not have even graduated from high school. We want to help these young adults develop their natural talents and creativity, as well as any necessary skills to put those talents and skills to use in their own entrepreneurial endeavours. The affordable housing project could be a helpful force enabling new businesses to support it, as well as many other small businesses to be formed and owned by these young adults.

We have some folks, including myself, who would like to form a computer software and IT consulting services group to assist those in our area who don't have the knowledge or experience to work out the best solutions to their computer needs and problems. I have more than 35 years of experience doing exactly that for the building engineering industry, law offices, and dentists, including designing and building the first EMR (Electronic Medical Record) software for dentists. First commercially sold in 2002, DBM Enterprises, Inc. still updates and supports that software to this day.

It is now time for me to pass as much of my knowledge and experience as possible to others, and I hope to help create a business doing just that. I will be running this myself until the project finds some competent young adults to take over themselves. I will probably be working for them before long! Here is what we are offering to anyone in the area right now.

The Waynesboro Project Computer Training and Help Services

  • Individual or private group training on the subject(s) important to you
  • Special projects - Slide shows set to music for an anniversary party, for example
  • Expert lessons on Word, Excel, and many other software products
  • Help setting up and configuring a new PC computer system
  • Help re-configuring and updating an older PC computer system
  • Help with almost any computer problem you may have
  • Consulting with small businesses and offices to help them figure out exactly what computer systems and software they need for their business. Our goal here would be to save them money and prevent them from being victimized by any dealers trying to push them into expensive systems that are way more than they really need.
What will we charge you?
We will charge you $25.00 for the first hour plus $20.00 for each consecutive additional hour for each session for one or two individuals if you come to our designated location. If we come to your location, three will be a travel charge of $1.00 per mile round trip from the I-64 Exit 99 on top of Afton Mountain to your location. If you want to get a group of friends and neighbors together for a group session, add $5.00 per hour for each additional attendee after the included first two. For example, if you have a law practice and would like us to come to your office and teach a couple of your staff advanced techniques for document preparation using Microsoft Word, the base rates apply. If you have several friends and neighbors that would like us to come teach your group at your location, which might be your subdivision's clubhouse, for example, or even your home if you have the space, we would charge you the base rate plus $5.00 per hour for each attendee number 3 and greater. The mileage charge is once only per session and not per attendee, and may be waived for larger groups. For groups, the cost per person is effectively reduced as the group gets larger. For senior centers, retirement homes, and other such locations, we can negotiate a fixed fee for the organization without regard to the number of students/attendees at any session.

Just give us a call with any questions or to negotiate and schedule a session. The best number to call is (540)946-8292 to reach me (Jay). I have been teaching people how to use their computers and software since the late seventies and have literally hundreds of very satisfied "students" of all ages I have successfully taught since before Microsoft even had MS-DOS available. I would be very happy and privileged to help you as I work to get this business launched with some competent young adults who would like to get into this field. This would become a new, separate venture separate from my DBM Enterprises, Inc. company that I started in 1983 for this very purpose.
